Entertaining // Stylish Basics for Your Table
Hosting family or friends for dinner is hectic enough without worrying about what your dining table looks like. Life’s too short to stress over casual place settings, so here’s some quick advice to prepare you for your next dinner party.
Tip 1: Invest in Stylish Basics
Take some time to shop for a few key pieces that you really like and you will be amazed how easily your table comes together. These pieces don’t need to be a major investment – retailers like Target, HomeGoods, World Market, and even Wal-Mart offer a ton of really amazing things that are affordable if you shop wisely.
Tip 2: Think Neutral
If you start with a neutral color palette, you can always add color to suit the season or your mood. A fun table cloth or a bundle of flowers add a lot of personality, and can completely change the look of your table without much added cost or effort.
You can see here that I used white plates, natural woven chargers, classic glasses, a white vase, and beige napkins, but the tablescape gets plenty of color from inexpensive Publix flowers (2x $4 bundles) and my blue table (which I semi-impulsively painted last summer and may paint again this spring…we shall see).
Some of my go-to pieces, which are all pictured here, are:
White Scalloped Plates // Target
Round Madras Chargers // World Market
Parchment Hemstitch Napkins // World Market
Wine Glasses // Hand-me-downs from my mom
Water Goblets (Footed Ice Tea Glasses) // Walmart
